The Elena M. Sliepcevich Centre for Health Education Studies (EMS CHES) primarily is a tribute to the spirit and work of its namesake. The Centre also honors a select group of influential Health Educators. Principally created to recognize those who helped establish the profession, the Centre is a focal point of health education historical research and other scholarly work.
This digital collection consists of writings, reports, speeches, correspondence, awards, and printed materials from the Elena M. Sliepcevich papers in the Special Collections Research Center, Morris Library, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. They document Dr. Sliepcevich’s career as a leading health educator and the development of health education as an academic discipline. The records were selected for digitization by Dr. Alan J. Sofalvi in 2025.
Other elements of the Centre for Health Education Studies include the Centre’s website and the Elena M. Sliepcevich Centre Collections virtual museum, accessible from the Links.
