This report documents the history of Southern Illinois University land purchases and campus expansion from 1936-1949. The preface states "This report is written expressly for the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University in an attempt to give t hem as complete a picture as possible of the land acquisition program at Carbondale, particularly from the standpoint of the thinking through the years of the President and of the various planning bodies of the University."
The information is compiled from minutes of the State Normal School Board, President’s Reports to the State Normal School Board, minutes of the Council of Administration, minutes of the Long Term Planning Committee, and general correspondence and memoranda from the President’s Office. There is also a helpful color-coded map in the appendices.
