Abstract
This thesis centers around the question of how much remains of historical Kaskaskia, Illinois in the archaeological context, and examines the common historical narrative and its lack of inclusion of non-white voices. Kaskaskia was a vibrant, diasporic community that shaped the founding of Illinois. Through archival research, ArcGIS, geophysical surveys, and an archaeological investigation, this thesis proves that it is possible to bring those voices back through the archaeological record. Kaskaskia has long been ignored by the broader research community, and this thesis aims to show just how much potential Kaskaskia has at contributing to our understanding of the founding of this region.
