Abstract
This document is a written record that details the events that took place to design and produce the lighting for the play Little Women: The Broadway Musical written by Allan Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland. This thesis outlines what it took to create the lighting design of this musical from conception to execution. The first chapter of this thesis contains the research and analysis of the script and historical and environmental aspects surrounding the story as well as goals that I set for myself for the process. The second chapter contains events that occurred within the design process which began April 11, 2022, and ended on October 10, 2022, with a break in between meetings for summer. The third chapter describes events that occurred during the production process which took place between October 17, 2022, and continued until December 8, 2022, which was opening night. This chapter also notes that which changed from the design process. Chapter 4 is the final chapter and is an evaluation of the design process, production process, and the lighting design itself. The appendices include all imagery, renderings, relevant paperwork, and production photos courtesy of Jon Lambert.
