Abstract
The Lavender Shotgun is a collection of original poems written by Isiah Fish at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s MFA in Creative Writing program. The poems underscore an incident of domestic & emotional abuse, using persona & narrative to explore the speaker’s toxic relationship with “Ben,” and the speaker’s complicated relationship with his single self. Humor plays an important role throughout the collection, as whimsical poems unfold to show the speaker engaged in the most absurd and joyful narratives. These poems are obsessed with toxicity and self-care, race & desire, and millennial anxiety in the workplace.
