Abstract
In Memory of Grandmother is a 3D CGI narrative animation film which is a semi-fictional account of my grandmother's life. Through this piece I was able to portray the honor and respect the way my grandmother lived as well as being able to show the way of Japanese Samurai and I could acknowledge my identity as a descendant of Samurai, such that the ancestral blood runs in my veins metaphorically and in reality. This work adds to the body of research on exploring traditional Japanese culture in juxtaposition to the socio-economic changes Japan is currently going through. It is story of a woman's life who lived during the Samurai era, showing her glory amidst the increasing sacrifice and pain of being tossed about by the family she married into as a young woman.
