Abstract

This paper explores the effects of various social movements on Black Americans in the nineteenth century. This examination is used as an historical background of a larger Reacting to the Past pedagogical game design set in Chicago at the time of the World's Columbian Exposition. The focus of this work explores ideological views on colonization, immigration, and citizenship, as well as the various laws and viewpoints which worked to oppress Black Americans after Emancipation.
