Abstract
JESSICA J. JOHNSON FROHLING, for the Master of Fine Arts Degree in THEATER, presented insert April 6, 2010 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: I'M NOT TAKING OFF MY PANTS OR THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES: DIRECTING ARISTOPHANES' LYSISTRATA MAJOR PROFESSOR: Olusegun Ojewuyi I'm Not Taking Off My Pants... documents the process of directing Lysistrata, presented December 3-6, 2010 in the McLeod Theater at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This document details the development of the director's vision for the production from the first reading of the script through post-production evaluations. The work is structured chronologically, beginning in Chapter 1 with a discussion on the director's early thoughts on the play as well as a brief statement regarding translation selection and key research insight. Chapter 2 shows the process of this production from rehearsal through production. Chapter 3 provides an evaluation of the production itself and the process as a whole. Finally, Chapter 4 is a short discussion of the meaning, uses and application of collaboration in the production process. The appendices include visual research, production documents, a rehearsal journal, and production photos.
