Abstract
The Seventh Circuit's mediation program, now in its fourteenth year, gives litigants the opportunity to resolve appeals by agreement rather than by judicial decision. The Court chose to employ full-time staff mediators and to make mediation mandatory. In doing so, it created a program that met the Court's needs and reflected the Court's values. The mediators' approach to their work also reflects the ethos of the Court and contributes to the success of the program.
