Abstract

Emerald is a short animated film that merges three techniques within its narrative: 3D computer animation, 2D hand-drawn animation and live-action HD video. Additionally, the beginning and end credits include two more: 2-D computer animation in Flash and 16mm film cut-out animation shot on an Oxberry stand.
Each of the three main techniques is personified by a character in the narrative and represents a particular space with different connotations about new and old media.
