Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Rebel Mickelson, for the Master of Fine Arts in Theater, presented on 14 November 2008, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Title: Budget Flight: Costume Design for The Fastest Woman Alive Major Professor: Kathryn Wagner This thesis presents the written documentation and evaluation of the costume design of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's production of The Fastest Woman Alive. Chapter One is an in-depth analysis of the script, including the historical background of the main character. The next chapter discusses the pre-production and design process working with a guest director. The third chapter is a depiction of the design and build of the production from beginning to end, as well as a detailed look at the budget. The final chapter is a self evaluation of my design process throughout the entire production. Research images, renderings for each character, essential paperwork, and production photos can all be seen in the appendices of this document.
